Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipstick: Shades 08 and 12

The Kate Moss for Rimmel lipsticks have been out for quite some time, but I haven't been able to catch a sale on them at the right time, and when they are fully stocked, so today I was strolling through my local grocery store (you know, when you go to get milk which happens to be "right by" the cosmetic isle *cough-cough*) and they had store coupons for $1.50 off each Rimmel product!  I took this as a sign from somewhere waaaayyy high up above that I should go for it!  I picked up two lipsticks, and then one lipliner, which was in the Kate Moss display, and although it does not indicate it is a "Kate Moss" lipliner I decided to include it in this post anyway.  Let me just say that I love the packaging!  Although it is in the same shape as Rimmel's other Lasting Finish lipsticks, the packaging is black and has the adorable Kate "signature" on the cap.  SO chic!
Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipsticks
L to R: 08, 12
Please note I have given the two lipsticks above my own nicknames since they
come with only numbers and no names, which almost seems unnatural to me ;)
Therefore, #08 I now dub: "Mossy Loves Mauve-y" and #12: "HOT Mama On Fire"
There, I feel better!
Bottom: Exaggerate Full Color Lip Liner in 032 Innocent
which was in the same display, but does not indicate it is a Kate Moss Shade.
Kate Moss for Rimmel in Shade 08
(a.k.a., Mossy Loves Mauve-y)

I love this shade! I am typically picky about my mauves, but I am loving this one because it isn't quite as cool as many mauves in my collection, so I like the warmer tone of it.  I will love wearing this as an everyday, wearable shade!  I am no stranger to Rimmel's Lasting Finish lipsticks. I love the creamy formula, although it can be a tad drying, but it does last well on my lips and I love how thick it feels. This has the same bubble-gummy scent which I love! I have actually been pining for Shade 08 for weeks now, picking it up twisting it out of the tube and admiring it, but in the back of my mind, I was most concerned it would be very similar to one of my Lasting Finish favorites: 070 Airy Fairy. I was relieved that the 08 shade is different - more mauve/plum toned while Airy Fairy is more nude/pink toned. I have comparison swatches below if you happened to be curious like I was:

I was curious to see if Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick in 070 Airy Fairy (on left) compared to Kate Moss 08 (on right).
Similar, but still different enough, as Airy Fairy is more pinky-nudy and KM 08 is a deeper toned mauve-y shade)
Say HELLO to my new favorite shade!

(a.k.a., HOT Mama On Fire)

Kate Moss for Rimmel in shade 12
Seriously, can you almost hear the fire sirens when you see this color!  SUCH a PERFECT blend of reddish orange that I knew I had to have it when I first popped the lid off of this bullet!  I did not use a lip liner above because I did not want to alter the shade, but with a color as bold as this I would use one when wearing it out.  I can see myself not only whipping it out this season, but into the summer when I am sporting more of a fake-tanned glow, bronzey eyes and dewy cheeks.  Oooooeeeee...it's getting hot in here!

Rimmel Lipliner in 032 Innocent
Rimmel Lip liner in Innocent
not my favorite formula, but I like the peachy-nude shade

I have been looking for another nude lipliner that is more peachy-nude that the ones I currently have (Revlon Soft Rose & Loreal Nude) and this one is perfect.  Although this twist up liner is not my favorite, and is drying like every other liner I've tried, I think I prefer their pencil versions to the twist up version.  I do like the definite peachy-nude shade of this liner, which is just what I was aiming for!

Hey my girlies who love to leave comments --I need your feedback!  Let me know if you like the lip swatch photos? or not? -- I typically just do a face of the day look and throw on the lipstick I'm posting about, but today was a no makeup day, so I just gave ya the lipsticks (okay, I threw on some foundation so I could cover up a bitty-bit - but that is all!  Let me know if you like the lip swatches or would just prefer me to do hand swatches & post a full face of the day photo along with it?

Let me know if you have any of these Kate Moss lipsticks! I would love to see which ones you chose! :)

I purchased all products mentioned in this post.

  1. Ahh I want the Kate Moss lipstick in 08 so so bad! I have been resisting buying new makeup and trying to use what I have! I love the shade 12 on you it will be perfect in the summer!! I also love the names you gave them much cuter than a number :)

For the suggestion I like how you showed it on your lips here I think lip and hand swatches work just fine :)

    1. Haha, glad you like my names! ;) I definitely admire you for using what you have. I will need to have you help me through it very soon I'm sure. ;)

  2. oooooh I like shade number 12! I have the two nudes, 08 and I don't remember the other number. I may have to stop at Walgreens sometime and pick one up.

I prefer seeing the colors on the full face but I would still much rather seeing a lip swatch than a hand swatch. I never seem to get a very good impression of what the color truly looks like on lips when it's on a hand.

    1. Oh I was almost going to get that nude! It looked amazing, but I was only willing to purchase two of them since I have several nudes to last me a lifetime (I was trying exercise SOME restraint, apparently - haha) :)
Thanks for your feedback on the lip swatches! I appreciate your input so much, Jennifer! <3

  4. Great post and the lip shots are nice for showing the true colors of the lipsticks! I purchased the Kate Moss for Rimmel l/s in 14, which is a soft nude color and it looks terrible on me lol. Its far too brown for my skintone, so I didn't bother to blog about it. It was the only shade at my cvs, but after seeing how pretty 08 is I might try that one! :)

    1. Hey Julie! Thanks for your input on the lip swatches! Too bad about the nude color not working for you. :( I was seriously leaning that way but wondered myself if it was a bit dark for my paleness! Yes, if you can find 08 try it out! I am loving it! <3

  5. I actually like to see both the lip (for a close-up of the color) and the full face together (to see how you've coordinated it with other things). Both are preferable to just hand swatches, which never seem to translate as well to the lips. I have the Kate Moss 08 color, and I like it a lot, though it pulls much more warm pink than mauve on me. I recently discovered your blog, and I've really been enjoying it! I love the way you show the full face looks with all the products used. I often struggle with how to combine things, and it's great to have some guidance in that area. I just wore a variation on your "Cranberry Tart" look yesterday, and really liked it! Thanks for all that you do!

    1. Hi Rose! First of all thank you for giving your feedback on the lip swatches! I LOVE that idea - posting a close up of the lip and a full face makeup. I totally understand what you mean by not being sure of what to lip to pair with what eye look! I don't feel 100% confident still, and love to see what others do pair together!
Ohhh and I got warm fuzzies when I read that you did a variation of the "Cranberry Tart" look and sooo happy you liked it! That is such a wonderful compliment to receive!

    2. Angie,
Yes, I really loved the "Cranberry Tart" look, and ended up wearing it for a second time out to dinner with friends last week! Thank you so much for your inspiration and instruction!
Related to my troubles figuring how how best to combine things for a full face look, I have a "reader request" for you, if you find yourself with time or interest! I really love the beautiful olive green/golden olive eye makeup shades I've been seeing lately, and have purchased some of them because they are just so pretty.
Problem is, I can't quite figure out how to combine them into a look that works. I've got two eyeliners that I really like (Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner in Intense Olive and e.l.f. Cream Eyeliner in Metallic Olive). Then I've got several eyeshadows in that color family (Wet n Wild Comfort Zone and Cool as a Cucumber palettes, L'Oreal HiP duo in Dynamic, and L'Oreal Infallible single in Golden Sage) that I think are just beautiful.
I can't figure out whether to combine various olive shades together, or to throw some other color(s) in there for some contrast or to soften the look, and all of my attempts thus far have been fails. LOL. Beyond that, I can't figure out a lip/cheek combo that seems to work well with these greens either.
Finally, (for the Fashion part of your blog!), what color(s) would you suggest wearing with an olive green eye? I tried an olive green top the other day, and ended up looking way too matchy-matchy (especially because I didn't have any other colors but shades of olive in my eyemakeup), and kind of like, well, a big olive!! Not so pretty!
Any thoughts or suggested looks you might present on your blog would be very much appreciated!! Thanks again!

    3. Hi Rose! I am so glad you got to wear that cranberry look out again! I'm sure you rocked it! :) We must be on the same wavelength girl, because I was inspired to do an olive eye look a week ago! (Totally not joking!) I have not done the look yet, and so far it still exists only in my mind, ;) but I will post it this week for you! If that is not soon enough just let me know and I will message you with ideas to get you started!
Figuring out what to wear on the cheeks as well as what clothing to wear is also a wonderful question and I also have a few ideas and will think of some more so you can have various options (and don't feel like a walking olive!) ;)
Thank you so much for your request - this is inspiring & fun!
Again, message me if you need ideas sooner than sometime later this week!
