Hot or Not Fashion Poll #9: The Maxi Skirt! (And Revisiting Styles from My Past)

Then and Now: Do you Maxi Skirt?

Created on polyvore - visit me there! :)

I haven't done a weekly fashion poll in awhile, and so this post may be a little longer than my previous posts, just because I have a lot more to say with this one I suppose. :)  Anyway, without further adieu, I bring to you this week's Hot or Not Fashion Poll #9: The Maxi Skirt!

If you take a look at fashion trends over the years, you will be able to clearly see that fashion tends to be cyclical, and eventually that year will come with something you loved as a young adult will make its way back into recirculation for a younger audience who will wear it in full force for all to see, while inwardly you cringe at the thought of "wearing that again".  We've seen resurfacing of fashion popular in the 1980s, which I actually have no problems with!  I loved the 80s in all of its brightly colored glory, heck even the "biker shorts" with the florescent stripes down the sides-- now THOSE were awesome, even though I should confess I was not a professional biker, but I did bike to school in a hand me down blue banana seat bike!  :D In the later 80s I remember soft pastel everything coming out, from pastel denim, to pastel high top sneakers!  I also don't even mind shoulder pads, or the sheer shirts with the poofy sleeves and the large bows you could tie at the front.  It reminds me of women's fashion in the 1980s and watching my mom get ready to go out for the night sporting a dress or blazer with those beefy pads (To clarify, I do not wear shoulder pads, I just do not cringe when I see something with them - ha!)  The 1980s are nostalgic to me, reminding me of happy times as a child.

Now let's move on into the 1990s, where as a teenager/young adult, I was attracted to the color "country blue", and faded floral patterned anything, including "shortall's", also long skirts: floral, denim, & plaid long skirts and lets just throw in the mix here long wrap skirts (not for covering up your bathing suit, just wearing it as an actual skirt.) also plaid "kilts" complete with Irish "beanie" hats!  Oh and here is the icing on the cake folks: bodysuits!  OH dear LAWD... bodysuits!  You know the ones, adult "onsies",  where in order to use the bathroom, you had to reach down and unsnap your crotch to even accomplish such a task.  So yes, while I happily wore the fashion of the 90s, and I was a happy young adult during the 90s, I do not have a fashion desire to return to the 90s to say the least, haha! ;)

Now bring in the maxi skirt, which is just a reinvention of the long skirts I wore in the 90s, but of course they have been updated.  I have actually gotten past my resistance to this phase, although I still have trouble with floral ones to tell you the truth.  But now I like the fabric they are constructed of now, nice and flowy (instead of made of denim or rayon), how much longer they are (some drag the floor!), and how most of them do not have buttons running up and down the front of them as many did in the 90s.  So what do you think?  Do you like the maxi skirt phase we are in right now?  Do you wear them?  I'd love for you to vote in the poll!

Fashion Poll #9 Maxi Skirts!

Also, I'd love to hear your opinions on styling maxi skirts!  I am currently trying to find one, and I would love to hear what you think!
  • How do you or would you style them?
  • Do you consider them more of a summer item, or do will you continue to wear them into the winter months?
  • Do you prefer your maxi skirt to be more dressy or more casual?
  • What about choosing a print or a color?
  • What shoes would you wear with a maxi skirt?

I'd love to hear from you! :)

My response to the previous fashion poll: Hot or Not: Does the Price Tag Matter? Has now been updated in that post!  Please click here if you want to find out if I am a Lion, Rabbit, Snake, Eagle or Beaver. :)
